DIY: Stitch Art

If you’re looking for a hand-crafted gift for your valentine here’s a diy you won’t want to miss. Even if you’ve never embroidered before this project will result in a fun piece of art for your love. Figure out what you want to stitch – a funny phrase, inside jokes, hearts, or a monogram – and click below for the break down! If you’d rather buy than make check out these embroidered master pieces!

Supplies:

  • Embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery thread in various colors
  • Linen for stitch crafts
  • Needles
  • Scissors

Purchase your supplies from your local craft store. Place the fabric in the hoop and tighten it to keep the fabric in place. Trace or free-hand your design lightly with a pencil. Thread the needle (don’t tie a knot). There are a variety of stitch types you can experiment with; I’m a fan of the split stitch and the back stitch. Don’t worry if your stitches aren’t the same size – imperfections will add charm to the finished product!

*If you want to do your s.o.’s initial I recommend printing it out big so you can trace it onto the fabric – I like baskerville and garamond for serif fonts. We free-handed our phrases for an imperfect look but you could trace those as well.
