Color Inspiration
If you can’t tell by now, I’m a bit obsessed with this tomatoe-y red, coral color at the moment. It just looks good with everything…mint, sky, grey, merlot… you name it, I love it. How pretty would this combo be for a winter wedding or a bedroom? Maybe I’ll find a way to work this into my own home…
Happy Tuesday friends!

Before & After : Artwork on a Budget
After years of dreaming and searching, my parents were fortunate enough to find a steal of a deal on a beach house a couple years ago. Since then, we have been working on little projects around the house to make it feel a little more like home. One of the first things that they wanted to do was to add a personal touch with some large scale artwork. Our budget for these big projects was about $100. To save money, we went to the local hardware store and bought backer board, wood for framing, and a few nails to build our own canvases rather than buying them (which can be REALLY expensive). With a couple basic paint brushes from the paint department, some grout for texture and a few paint samples for color we were ready to work! (FYI – paint samples are only $2 – $5 per sample vs. the $5 – $8 price for acrylic paint tubes at the hobby store. Another little tip – most hardware stores have a mark-down area for wrong color or returned paints for only $1-$2 – often times there will be a shade that you need or a neutral tone for a base coat, so look there first!)
My parents wanted a beach scene for above the couch with a touch of red to tie in the pillows on the couch (thankfully, I was able to convince my mom to recover the other patterned pillows because they were, well… UGLY.) So here’s the before photo:

New pillows will be a must a some point, but for now these will work!
The artwork above the stairs required a bit more planning. First – we drew a pattern. Then, we traced the pattern and made a stencil from a piece of discarded cardboard. Next, we measured the distance between each stencil so that they would match up once they were on the wall. The pattern itself was inspired by a pineapple, which is a symbol of welcoming people into your home, and my parents really love the color red, so they wanted that to be the primary “pop” color for the pattern. And here’s how it all worked out:

Simple. Simple. Simon. I promise you – anyone can make something like this. Repeat patterns are easy, they just take a little time and planning, but for $100 these custom pieces make a big impact, and it’s FUN!
Swim Suit Guide for Summer
It’s that time of year again and while I never really look forward to putting on the first suit of the season, I LOVE LOVE LOVE everything else about summer so much that it’s worth the search to find the right one! There are a ton of cute suits out right now and surprisingly enough some pretty decent deals online (must be the after-spring-break deals). That being said, I’ve compiled a few of my favorite suits for each body type in 3 of the most popular trends for the season : RUFFLES, BRIGHTS, and NAUTICAL prints and patterns. Maybe one of these will suit you!
Just as an added detail…my rule of thumb when shopping online or in catalogs is always “If it doesn’t look GREAT on the model, it’s not going to look GOOD on me!” Happy Hunting!
Rihanna/Ross Inspired Wedding
A good friend of mine is helping her cousin Dami plan her November wedding and asked me for a little help with the inspiration. She knew she wanted some form of fuschia or hot pink in the plan but didn’t know how to pull it together in a way that reflected her style. From what I know about Dami, she is a beautiful girl with very elegant, polished style. She also has a little bit of an edge and likes a splash of personality in what she wears, so… what a better time to combine the inspiration from vintage Dianna Ross and edgy rockstress Rihanna….

The Black & White elements bring in the polished look of the classic, elegant style. Creating a wedding logo or crest along with simple graphic patterns like stripes or brocade prints adds to the classic aesthetic, while timeless details like crystals, candles, silver and Tiffany blue round out the elegant, glamorous style that is vintage Dianna Ross. Bright pops of color and layering of shades with a touch of spunk (and maybe even a little cream fur for a November wedding) brings in the edgy playfulness that is Rihanna.
